{Happy Pub Day to Stranger Things Have Happened by Kasie West. Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the gifted listening copy. It’s narrated by Karissa Vacker who is an excellent narrator overall, but excels at this genre!}
Trope: Fake Dating
The setup: Drinks are had and a bet is made. It’s an unhinged plan, really. Sutton’s friend, Tara, is about to get married to Elijah’s brother. Tara has been burned by men in the past, so she really wants to attend couple’s therapy with her fiancé before they walk down the aisle. Her finance refuses. Why would they need to go to therapy? They are getting married and have a solid relationship. Sutton is team Tara and insists a good therapist can tell the difference between real love and fake love. That therapy is good. Elijah is smug and arrogant, thinks that is ridiculous. So they make a bet to see who’s right and attend therapy together as a fake couple.
This may seem like a silly premise—because it is—but romances are supposed to silly and cheesy, IMO. I had fun reading this from start to finish. It was a bingeable story, filled with chemistry and banter. The lightness of the story is balanced with some family drama. The importantance of therapy is well represented in this story!
