Favorite Historical Fiction From 2023

Updated: Jan 25

📚❤️ 2023 Historical Fiction Favorites ❤️📚

I really tried hard to narrow down my favorites, but the best I could do was 15 books in this category. This is my most read genre; in fact I host a book club with my good friend, Leighellen, of @mommaleighellensbooknook called Book Friends Book Club. You can find us over on @bookfriendsbookclub —9 of these favorites were actually book club picks and some of our favorite authors!

📚The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson

📚The House is on Fire by Rachel Beanland

📚Go As A River by Shelley Read

📚Only the Beautiful by Susan Meissner

📚A Girl Called Sampson by Amy Harmon

📚The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry

📚The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride

📚The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger

📚The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

When I scroll though my top reads and the books I’ve given five stars to, these books still hold up and will stand the test of time. These books taught me something, made me think and sparked really good conversations. These books just give me a happy feeling when I see the cover or title. They give me fond memories of the characters and reading. And that’s such a great feeling for a reader. Rounding out the rest of my list below, and I should point out that some of these really are genre benders and could also go in the literary fiction category.

📚Beyond that, the Sea by Laura Spence-Ash

📚The Air Raid Book Club by Annie Lyons

📚Independence by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

📚The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese

📚This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger

📚The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters

I hope you will add one of these books to your TBR. They are well worth your time.
