Other Birds

Title: Other Birds

Author: Sarah Allison Allen

Publisher: St. Martin’s Press

Genre: Literary Fiction/Magical Realism/Mystery

“Maybe some stories aren’t meant to be told”

I’ll admit it took me around 90 pages to get into this book and for one that’s not even 300 pages, I was getting a little nervous that this book wasn’t for me. But despite the slow start, I absolutely loved this one. It all came together brilliantly and I adored this misfit of friends.

Let me paint the scene. Mallow Island, South Carolina. A narrow alley. Tiny turquoise birds live alongside five apartments.

- Apartment 1 is a quirky girl on the run

- Apartment 2 is grieving chef who makes comfort food that comforts everybody but him

- Apartment 3 & 4 are two estranged middle-aged sisters

- Apartment 5 is Zoey, who only recently arrives to claim her deceased mother’s property

When the night Zoey arrives, one of the sisters dies, bringing her thrusted into the mystery of of the Dellawisp. The Dellawisp involves missing pages from a writer’s work! <— hello, #booknerd dream storyline

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quirky, mysterious and endearing; I absolutely loved this one! While it may not be for everyone, I think it’s the perfect fall read. Grab a copy today. It was a September book of the month and Barnes & Noble pick. I got mine at B&N that’s why the cover is different.
