The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett

When The Calamity Club came out earlier this Spring, I was graciously gifted a beautiful copy from @spiegelandgrau Whenever I read a chunky book, my favorite method is tandem reading it with the audiobook copy.  Once my Libby hold came through, I was eager to make this one my top priority!

Friends, this one is a commitment at 30 hours on audio and 656 pages!  However, I do think it is worth it.  My favorite part of this dual POV story was that one of them was from the POV an eleven year old.  The narrator was phenomenal.  Gosh, did she make me laugh!

What to expect:

*1933—Oxford, MS

*Prohibition Era

*The Great Depression

*All Economic classes have fallen on hard times

(However, the Social Order remains)

*Orphanage Asylum

*Sisterhood/Found Family

*Funny, Heartfelt, and Characters to root for

“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without words . . .”

This was not a linear reading experience for me.  I had feelings of doubt—Was this worth the commitment?  I was unsure of some of the characters choices—Where is this going?  Should I DNF?  But, in the end, I loved this one and found it to be a story to make you laugh, cry, and root for!  4.5 ⭐️
