{Thank you @hanoversquarepress / @htp_hive for the gifted copy of The Story Baker by German author, Carsten Henn who’s books are translated by Melody Shaw.}

I loved Henn’s previous book—The Door-to-Door Bookstore and think he excels at writing a feel good story.  One that is carefully and methodical told.  Quiet, but deeply emotional  Involving my favorites tropes—found family and community.

In this story we meet a has-been ballerina—who’s career abruptly ended due to injury—taking on a temporary job in a small village bakery.  Day one she immediately wants to quit.  She’s no good at it.  With the help of Italian baker, Giacomo—who is much older and wiser—she quickly discovers the rhythm of baking is much like her days of dancing.  She begins to love it!  She learns to find joy in the little things and courage to embrace change.  I couldn’t love this theme more!
