What’s a sign that Summer is on the horizon?  A new Kristy Woodson Harvey book, of course!

{Thank you @uplitreads @gallerybooks for the gifted copy of Summer State of Mind by Kristy Woodson Harvey.  Her book’s covers are some of my favorites!  I was also able to add an audiobook copy through @simon.audio}

I want to start with the elephant in the room . . . While this one has a Summery title and cover, it’s actually a little heavier dealing with an abandoned baby found in a dumpster, career & life dream disappointments, and lots & lots of secrets! (Not a spoiler…in the book summary!)

I love a juicy family drama and this one delivered!  So does bonus character of the scenery of a small coastal town—Cape Carolina in North Carolina.  Spring and Summer are baseball season, so I loved that this one centered around a high school baseball

team and their famous coach who was set to make it big until he was forced into early retirement due to an injury.

Some of my favorite quotes that set the tone of the story:

“It isn’t running away if you’re running to something.”

“Honey, there are times in our lives when we have to reach so far down inside ourselves for strength that we don’t believe we have.  But, when we look, we always find it.  And those times make us kind.  They make us humble.  Because they teach us that everyone around us is facing a silent battle.”
