Title: Samantha: The Next Chapter

Author: Fiona Davis

Publisher: American Girl Publishing

Genre: Historical Fiction

{Thank you @prhaudio for the gifted audiobook expertly narrated by a favorite—Saskia Maarleveld!  The hardcover has beautiful sprayed edges, but man-oh-man was the audiobook good!}

American Girl dolls were more a Millennial thing than Gen X, but I do have found memories of taking my daughter to the American Girl store & restaurant for her eighth birthday.  She picked out the doll Kit.

Nostalgia. Love. History. Mystery. Family Legacy.

This book is the storyline of the Samantha doll, but now she’s a 25 year old adult in the 1920s living in NYC.  Samantha is working hard to educate women in New York about suffrage and encourage them to vote in their first presidential election.  But this is not just a historical story, it bends genres when Samantha loses her inheritance and home and the mystery to solve this shocking scheme.  Samantha goes from socialite to shop girl overnight.

I really enjoyed this one.  It’s under 300 pages and while billed as an adult novel (likely due to the 20s age) it has a YA simplicic feel. You can trust a veteran author like Fiona to do this character, story and franchise well.  I wonder what doll they will do next?
