{Thank you @uplitreads + @thomasnelsonfiction for the gifted copy of Handle with Care by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen. As a bonus, this was a @librofm ALC this month, so I was able to pair it with the audiobook, which I highly recommend since it’s narrated by Jane Oppenheimer.}
There’s always hope in hardship. Or I like to think there is. I think Marybeth wrote a story that proves just that and is full of hope, excellent characters, well plotted, heartwarming, with depth & humor, and is so much more than just a hostage story.
It’s a regular day. And a small town finds itself at the center of a domestic dispute. A husband—full of grief and now an alcohol problem—brings a gun and barricades the doors of the postoffice where his wife works. Caught in the crosshairs are three other woman—each coming to mail a package—that if mailed would profoundly change their lives—each dealing with their own sets of problems.
I was really engaged in this story and liked the way it was told, pulling back layers. I liked learning about all of these characters in the post office and the negotiator in charge. A quick, enjoyable read that I recommend! The book contains discussion questions and would make for a good book club selection.
