Author Daniel Kalla is a Doctor and that shined through the pages of this medical thriller. He tackled some tough issues including body shaming and toxic diet pills amongst the most vulnerable who you would assume know better.
The story opens up in LA with the death of a track star, who is also the son of a high profile US Senator. It looks like a classic drug overdose in his bedroom. Meanwhile, in Vancouver, a famous pop star dies, then the co-owner of a mega wellness center with locations in both Vancouver AND LA. When the autopsies come back all 3 died of an overdose from a deadly toxin DNP. It was used as an explosive agent in WWI and has now found its way into weight loss drugs and pills for body builders! 🤯 Is the so called wellness center the link!? Detectives in both cities must work together and fast before more bodies pile up!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Ok, there was a lot I liked about this…learning about something in the medical world I had no idea about, for starters. I liked the short chapters and fast pace of this one. However, I really struggled with excessive dialogue. It felt like I was reading a script at times! Though, I will admit, the detectives made me chuckle. Of course, I was picturing conversations from any of the detective duos in the L&O franchises. If thrillers, especially medical and crime leaning are your jam…check this one out!
