#thinkingthursday Here’s a book I’ve been thinking and stewing over; which I’m not sure was the author’s intention. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked it because the main character came across as “woe as me” and the three chapter format threw me for a loop. However, it’s a book I keep thinking about, so that has to count for something, right!? Plus, after respectfully discussing this one with @mommaleighellensbooknook during our @bookfriendsbookclub ‘Coffee Hour’ last week (you can find the saved video on her page or our book club page!) who absolutely loved it, I can understand the main character Sally a little more. I mean as a reader maybe she was annoying, but as a human being, especially a female, she is spot on. There IS a double standard for men and women in the workforce, with dating and so many things!
Despite the title ‘Romantic Comedy’ don’t go into this one thinking it’s a straight forward Rom-Com...because it’s not! Billed as a contemporary fiction, I think it has a lot of literary leanings. This one is witty and smart.
It’s important to know it’s only three chapters! I know!
The first chapter is a love letter to SNL fans. It takes place over the course of a week and deals with what it takes to put together a live show. When we meet our main character Sally and the first table read, I actually had flashes of the tv show 30 Rock and Liz Lemon; who of course is played by Tina Fey. This is where Sally has her ‘meet cute’ with Noah a musician who is so popular he is the host and the band for the week.
The second chapter takes place over cov1d and is mostly a series of emails between Sally and Noah. I flew through this section and found the loneliness they had during that time very relatable.
The last chapter they decide to meet again.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 I know so precise. 🙄 This is a quick read by a very popular author. Give it a try and see what you think!
