{Thank you @librofm for the gifted audiobook of Whistler by Ann Patchett, narrated by the author herself!}

Ann Patchett books are pretty unforgettable consistently rating ranking in the five star territory, but I will always remember reading Whistler on my flight to Rome and finishing it up in Italy!

Doesn’t this book have the most beautiful cover!?  I can see why they author picked it!  But to be clear . . . there is a horse in the book, but it’s not about a horse.

At its core, this book is about the power of connection.  Even when time passes us by and we lose track of people.

This story is told in the present day and with flashbacks from the past.  It’s a story of a middle age teacher, Daphne, reconnecting with her former step-father, Eddie, and recounting a traumatic event that they both shared together.

So many thoughtful themes—Human connection, self-worth, bravery, love, and losses.

Patchett has a way of writing a story to sink into that’s about so much, yet nothing at all.

It’s slower paced and character driven, but oh so worth it!

I’m not sure what else to say!?  It’s Ann . . . read it!

Whistler is a story about two adults looking back over the choices they made, and the choices that were made for them. It’s a story about bravery, memory, the often small yet consequential moments that define our lives, and the endless stream of loss that in time comes for us all. Beautiful in its simplicity, it is ultimately about how love endures, and how the feeling of being known by one other person, even for a short period of time, can change everything.
