📚BOOK REVIEW 📚
Title: As Bright As Heaven
Author: Susan Meissner
Publisher: Berkley
Genre: Historical Fiction
After reading ‘Nature of Fragile Things’ last year, I fell in love with author Susan Meissner’s writing. I found myself collecting her #backlist to read.
I was quickly immersed in the book As Bright As Heaven and found myself wondering if the author had any idea when she wrote it back in 2018 how similar this story of the 1918 Spanish Flu would mimic Covid-19. From the mask wearing to the missing school, illnesses, death and hoping & praying for a vaccine . . .
In 1918, during the Great War, the young Bright family moves to Philadelphia hoping to give their three young daughters— Evelyn, Maggie and Willa a chance at a better life. In Philadelphia there is an opportunity to take over the family mortuary business. But their dreams are short lived when the Spanish Flu arrives. Also arriving to the family in an orphaned baby to take care of . . .
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So much tragedy, yet so much hope and love. This book was everything I love about Historical Fiction. I found it to be unique because it was alternating chapters from the young daughters prospectives. I quite enjoyed that. I highly recommend this book and author!
