{Thank you @uplitreads + @harpermuse for the #gifted copy of The English Masterpiece. I also ended up with an audio copy from @netgalley & @librofm This dual POV story was dual narrated by two of the greats in this genre—Fiona Hardingham and Saskia Maarleveld!}

Despite it being a favorite genre, Historical Fiction can sometimes feel a little heavy in the summer, especially war centered ones! Those books just make me want to curl up by a roaring fire and read. If you feel the same way, then I have the perfect book for you—The English Masterpiece by Katherine Reay. This book is set in the 1970s, dual POV, filled with rich descriptions of the art scene, and a cat & mouse mystery to solve who forged ‘Woman Laughing’ by Pablo Picasso. It also has a small romantic subplot, tackles personal growth young professionals face and being your true self to you family—not who you think they need you to be.

I really enjoyed the growth of main character Lily. She begins the story an assistant to a gallery owner (Tate Gallery) and art curator (Modern Collection) and spending her free time in painting in a closet trying to learn by replicating some of the greatest and famous artist. By the end of the story, she is painting in the park on an easel whatever she feels like!
