I've been neglecting my blog lately. Summertime + Back-to-School time is always so incredibly busy. But it's time to buckle down and get caught up!
Today, I have a review for a summer book that was wildly popular—These Summer Storms by Sarah Maclean! But anytime is a great time for a family drama! Sarah Maclean is known for her historical romance, but she sure made a leap to something new look easy!
{Thank you @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook! It’s narrated by Julia Whelan…Need I say more!?}
Part family drama. Part romance. And a whole lot of fun!
—The Storm Family—
Greta - The eldest daughter desperate to have her parent’s approval. Really just approval in general.
Sam - The only son who believes that title should make him the one to take over the family empire. He has two children and wife that is epitome of rich people behaving badly. And we’re talking crazy billionaire rich!
Emily - The the eclectic and whimsical youngest daughter
Alice - The daughter in exile, but by choice. She had enough of being in control by her father. But plot twist perhaps he’s still been keeping tabs on her through Jack Dean his right hand man.
Elisabeth - The mother who is always drinking and can’t see to say anything nice, especially about her husband
When the patriarch of the Storm family passes away, the Storm children are all summoned back to the family’s private island for a reading of the will. However, their cleaver father has turned it into a game—inheritance games. The are all given a letter, plus rules and requirements for their task.
Full of twists, turns, dysfunctional chaos, and manipulation I really enjoyed reading this and my one week stay on Storm island. It does a great job of tackling grief, love, and the meaning of family. It’s the perfect summer read and despite all the themes, it’s surprisingly a tender story too.
I highly recommend this ‘wild summer storm’. And you can’t go wrong with the audiobook narrated by Julia Whelan!
