{Thank you @uplitreads @harpermuse @jessicaguerrieriauthor for the #gifted copy of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea!  This is Jessica’s debut and it’s going to blow your mind!  I also received an audiobook copy from @librofm which is narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw and she conveyed the emotions of this story so well!}

“Maybe this version of my life was what I was meant to find all along.”

Leah thought she’d be a childless, nomadic, surfing artist.

Then she met Lucas.

And had they went on to have three kids.

Her MIL, Christine, is a superstar mother and the matriarch of the Connor Family.  The Connor family can be a lot. And there is no skipping the weekly Sunday dinner.  Leah finds herself drinking more glasses of wine to tolerate these dinners and what has become of her life.

“Everything will be fine.  Everything is fine.”

This story is an honest look at alcoholism and how it effects not only the alcoholic, but family and friends around them.  It shines a lens on how incredible difficult and lonely motherhood can be.  The sacrifices mothers make.  I really liked the friendship Leah had with Amy, her SIL.

Despite the serious topics in this book, I felt like it ended very well and was hopeful.

Don’t skip the the author’s note!
