I’m late to the party, as usual. But, anytime is a good time to love on an author & book!
{Thank you @stmartinspress for the gifted copy of Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser. They included a puzzle from @pieceworkpuzzles and I don’t know about you, but I love a good puzzle while listening to an audiobook!!!}
Lady Tremaine is billed as fairytale retelling (of Cinderella) from the evil queen’s prospective. Fairytale retellings can be hit or miss and quite tricky to pull off since they are so well known. It’s almost like when your favorite book becomes a movie or series and you watch with a critical eye comparing it to the book. I’m here to say that Hocchauser passed with flying colors and Lady Tremaine is an absolute slam-dunk winner! (And this is coming from a reader who only dabbles in fantasy, but this one appealed to my historical fiction loving side.)
I truly think this is so much more than a retelling. It really drives home the point that we truly never know what other people are going through. It shows a human side of a person labeled evil—who is at her core—is just a mom who would do anything for her children.
I can’t recommend this one enough! I used a @librofm credit to buy the audiobook because I heard that Bessie Carter, who narrated, was amazing. Friends, she wasn’t just amazing, but this was an award winning performance!!!
🙌 @mommaleighellensbooknook has been talking about this one for months and as usual she was right!
❓What’s a book you read recently that either became a favorite or surprised you in the best possible way??
