Jessica George wrote @readwithjenna pick Maame (which I LOVED!) a couple years ago, and is back with her sophomore novel—Love by the Book out this Tuesday 4/7. I’m happy to report no sophomore slump here…I loved this one!
George tackles important themes of friendship and motherhood in this novel. The main character, Remy, has a tight group of friends that serves as the inspiration for her first published novel. After much success, Remy finds herself with writers block for her second novel. She also finds her friend’s group, having children, moving away, and drifting apart. This book really showcases the reality for adults and friendships. Not only are they hard to maintain, but it’s hard to make friends as an adult! It also showcases the choice of motherhood. These characters weren’t perfect—and were frustrating at times—but they felt real.
