Title: The Most Wonderful
Crime of the Year
Author: Ally Carter
Publisher: Avon Books
Genre: Thriller/Mystery
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year was a buzzy book that came out last year that I never got around to reading. Especially for holiday book readers looking for something other than a typical romance, I can see the appeal. Comped to Knives Out and billed as a rivals-to-lovers, the romance is more of a back-burner story. If you love the board game Clue, this one is for you!
-The bridge is out.
-The phones are down.
-And the most famous mystery writer just disappeared. From a locked room.
Dun, Dun, Dun…
Maggie is the new Queen of the Cozy Mystery. Ethan is Mr. Big-Time Thriller. She hates his guts. He calls her by the wrong name. But suddenly they are thrusted together after both accept a cryptic invitation to a Christmas house party at an English estate of a reclusive fan. Neither expect the host to actually be the famous mystery author, Eleanor Ashley, the Duchess of Death herself.
These rivals have no choice but to become allies to save Eleanor.
I loved the epilogue in this one and overall found this just under 300 pages enjoyable. However, temper your expectations because it’s good, but not earth shattering. It reminds me of the YA book The Inheritance Games a little.
