Author: Katelyn Doyle
Publisher: Flatiron Books
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Thank you @macmillan.audio #macaudio2024 for the #gifted listening copy of Just Some Stupid Love Story by Katelyn Doyle. The production of this one was perfect because it included two narrators (Christine Larkin + Tim Paige) for this dual POV story. They did a great job capturing the personalities of these two characters.
Molly and Seth were high school sweethearts. Also during that time, Molly’s dad walked out on her and her mom. Her broken heart and seeing how distraught her mom was, made her distrust men and relationships in general, so she broke up with Seth and ghosted him.
Fast forward fifteen years and they meet again at their high school reunion. After too many martinis ending in a hookup, Molly a rom-com writer who doesn’t believe in love, and Seth a divorce attorney who is desperately looking for ‘the one’, make a bet to predict the fate of five of their friends relationships before their next reunion in five years. The kicker? The fifth couple in them. Seth thinks she’ll be hopeless in love with him and Molly thinks he’s delusional.
Romantic, funny and sexy, but at the end of the day, I found this one to be too much of a slow burn. For a good portion of the book they aren’t really even together, nor do they live in the same city! They just email or call back and forth when the mood strikes or something comes up. I also found the spiciness of the story to just bam come out of left field. It didn’t match the rest of the story. But, maybe because I was listening to this on an airplane!! 🤣
I was hoping this would be more swoon-worthy. It had potential, but ended up being just fine. It does have a third act break-up, but resolves fairly quickly. All in all a decent summer pool/beach book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
