The Unmaking of June Farrow - BFBC Pick!

📚Book Club Book Review 📚

Title: The Unmaking of June Farrow

Author: Adrienne Young

Publisher: Delacorte Press

Genre: Time Travel Fiction/Magical Realism

The Unmaking of June Farrow was an October @bookfriendsbookclub pick and we finally had our chat last night. It was so great to dig a little deeper into June’s character, the timelines, magic red door, motherhood, mysteries centering the story and so much more!

I’m going to be completely honest and admit this one had a slow start for me. I read about 3 chapters very early in the month of October, felt confused, and put the book aside. Naturally, it became a signature book friends book club #coffeeandcurrentlycramming book for me and I read it in one sitting this past Saturday night!

Once I buckled down, something just clicked for me and I fell in love with the story. For some reason it reminded me of What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon. I think the time travel and romance of the story.

"Time is like a rope, made of many fibers, and when they're bound up together, they make one strong timeline. But once you cross it, it begins to fray.”

The Farrow woman are know for flowers and their family curse. The whole town remembers June’s mother, Susanna, going mad and disappearing, leaving June to be raised by her grandmother. Now, June is worried the same thing is happening to her. She’s started seeing things that aren’t there, hearing wind chimes, the call of her name, and a mysterious door keeps appearing out of nowhere! She’s determined to break the curse, but mostly she wants to know what happened to her mother.

This is a “what if” story. Are you brave enough to write and rewrite your own path and history?

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Not quite a 5 star for me just because of the slow start and at times confusing timelines of time travel. I almost needed a timeline in the book, but honestly that would’ve probably taken away some of the whimsy of this book. It was emotional. Romantic. Heartbreaking. But full of hope. Character driven with great character growth. I absolutely love this author’s writing and storytelling. Cozy up to this book now!
