Title: Spectacular Things
Author: Beck Dorey-Stein
Publisher: The Dial Press
Genre: Contemporary Literary Fiction
{Thank you @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook of Spectacular Things by Beck Dorey-Stein, which is a July @reesesbookclub pick! It is narrated by Emily Rankin who excelled at this slow-burn character driven story of sisters.}
What are you willing to sacrifice for your dreams to come true? And are you willing to sacrifice even more for someone else you love beyond measure—your sister?
“Love and loss live on the same coin. It’s never heads or tails, but joy and agony, grief and delight, spinning in the air. Waiting on time and luck to determine not when this chapter ends, but the next one begins.”
-Character Driven
(plenty of plot too!)
-Coming-of-age
-A Story of Sisters
-Full of Sacrifices
-And Big Dreams
-And Even Bigger Love
-For Sports Fans
(especially Soccer!)
-Examines Loss & Grief
I don’t think you need a sister to enjoy this one, but if you are blessed with one, I think you’ll love it even more! After I finished, I immediately recommended it to my sister. This one lives up to its title and is SPECTACULAR!!! The Mother/Daughter and Siblings relationship—especially sisters—can be so incredible complex and I think the author did an excellent shop highlighting and showcasing that. I really liked the way this book was written. It starts in the present day, then goes back in time sharing their mother’s story, the sister’s upbringing, and coming full circle back to the present day.
