Title: Too Old For This
Author: Samantha Downing
Publisher: Berkley
Genre: Thriller
{Thank you @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook. Narrator Elizabeth Wiley was absolutely brilliant as our septuagenarian—serial killer—main character, Lottie. Author Samantha Downing has a knack for writing anti-heroes that you somehow actually want to root for and Elizabeth furthered this appeal.}
Lottie is seventy-five, attends church, plays bingo with her friends, adores her only son + grandchildren, and is a retired serial killer!
Samantha sets the stage when, Plum Dixon phones Lottie, then persistently follows up at her doorstep in an attempt to interview her for a true crime docuseries. Plum specializes in telling the story behind the story and is sure Lottie would love the chance to share hers after losing so much when the media dragged her name through the mud when she was much younger.
Things quickly begin to unravel and you’ll want to binge this cat and mouse story. It felt like “If you give a mouse a cookie…” but with murders!
-Humorous
(Snarky, Dark & Twisted)
-Suspenseful and Utterly Unique
-A Thriller, but still somehow shines a spotlight on agism
I thought this one was a lot of fun and it comes with my recommendation. If I had to nitpick, though, I would’ve loved more of her past. Also, some parts felt a little long and you definitely have to suspend you disbelief on what Lottie is capable of doing (not necessarily mentally, but physically).
