{Thanks to @prhaudio I was able to listen to this! #gifted It’s narrated by AJ Bridel—who has done all of Fortune’s books—and the author too! Another stellar job!}

Summer may not official start for another three weeks—but where I am—school’s are out, it’s Memorial Day weekend, flowers are blooming, the garden is going; so it must be summer! I don’t love triple digit days or mosquitos, but otherwise summer and I get along just fine. I especially love summer reading!

You know what else feels like summer? A new Carley Fortune book. I know when you think of atmospheric the romance genre might not immediately spring to mind, but Fortune knows how to set a summer scene. How to make you feel like you are living your own version of—Honey I shrunk the kids—placed right into the pages of the book. In One Golden Summer we are back in Barry’s Bay for this companion novel to Every Summer After. And it’s good to be back!

I loved Every Summer After where we were introduced to the Florek boys and neighbor Percy. Sam Florek and Percy had their second chance romance. Now it’s Charlie’s turn. And dare I say I may have loved Charlie’s story even more!?

“I like who I am with him. I laugh until tears stain my cheeks. I say what I think, and when he sense that I am holding something in, he tell me to spit it out. I don’t have to be a perfectly edited version of myself—it’s okay to have a few bumps. And I don’t have to try. I’ve never felt this comfortable with a man. I’m not sure I’ve felt this kind of ease with anyone.”

Alice spent just one summer in Barry’s Bay at a cottage with Nan when she was seventeen—it’s where she took that photo that made her fall in love with photography, the one of three grinning teenagers in a yellow speedboat, the image that changed her life.

All these years later she is back in Barry’s Bay with her Nan. And the yellow boat and boy are back too!

Oh what a summer! Why are these two running from life and spending a summer at the lake? You’ll have to read to find out, but I can tell you this—“Good things happen at the lake.”
