Book Review - The Heartbreak Hotel

The Heartbreak Hotel isn’t a fall book, per se, but it has a cozy feel and takes place in a small mountain town of Colorado, so it gave me fall vibes!  Put this one on your #falltbr!

I thought author Ellen O’Clover was a debut author, but it looks like she has previously written a couple of YA contemporary books.  This seems to be a theme this year of YA authors making the leap into the adult fiction world and like others I have read, O’Clover nailed it!  I loved this book!  She wrote a perfectly balanced book of laugh-out-loud parts, deeply serious topics and like the title suggests—heartbreak!  I really liked the characters and I always think the sign of talent is when the secondary characters are equally amazing.

Lou loves where she lives!  Except now that her wealthy musician boyfriend is her Ex, she can no longer afford to live there.  So she floats a plan with her landlord, Henry.  She’ll turn it into a bed & breakfast for people who are brokenhearted.  This will allow her to use her counseling degree while she waits to take her boards.  She’s shocked that he agrees and even more shocked by the undeniable connection they seem to have.
