Title: If We’re Being Honest Author: Cat Shook Publisher: Celadon Books @celadonbooks Genre: Contemporary Fiction Pub Week Book Review! I’ve seen this one featured a bunch and it was given a big push with a #LFL drop, so hopefully it’s on your radar! I was able to listen to the audio thanks to a copy from @macmillan.audio And I’m going to be completely honest . . . I wasn’t sure at first if this book or the audio route was going to be for me. There are a lot of characters! But, after I took some notes (see slide 2) I absolutely fell in love with these characters and the narration by Kathleen McInerney was superb. The way she differentiated each character; both male, female and southern accents was great!
When a book starts off with “Gerry Williams’ funeral was a shit show” you know a book is going to be great! 😆 This set the whole tone for their week together of grieving and learning all about this family. Family that can be flawed, frustrating and messy. One that can be full of secrets and hard to love. One that you’re maybe holding onto to and it’s time to let go of. And one that no matter what you don’t have to hide from because “The people who love you want every part.”
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Look I know this book isn’t going to be for everyone. You have to like character driven, multigenerational stories with lots of characters. And then a story that’s only going to dive so deep. You have to like a story that’s a little messy like life. But I freaking loved it, especially the ending! Give this debut a try, you won’t regret it!
